KISD Apprentices Art Show & Sales

The apprentice program is designed to provide high-caliber, intensive art apprenticeships to young artists with disabilities attending special education transition centers (for students ages 18-26) in West Michigan. As apprentices, artists work and train under a professional artist and gain experience in arts administration, professional development, artistic training, and experiential learning.

Our 2023-2024 cohort consisted of ten apprentices who have been working since September to build a portfolio of artwork for art shows and sales this spring. Apprentices had original pieces and printed materials for sale at ACTion Art in March and at their own Apprentice Exhibit in mid-April. Turns out all those months of hard work paid off - literally! This year we nearly sold out of all printed materials, and all proceeds from sold artwork went directly back to the artists (minus any printing costs).
