INspired Art

A CREATIVE JOURNEY WITH ARTPRIZE

INspired Art was created in conjunction with the 2024 ArtPrize festival, offering students an immersive, hands-on experience. Their journey began with a field trip to Monroe Community Church (MCC), a local ArtPrize venue, where they explored the artwork on display. Students had the chance to engage with artists, learn about their creative processes, interact with materials used in the pieces, and speak with ArtPrize staff about the event.

After their visit to MCC, students were inspired to create their own works of art. The first project involved crafting nature-themed collages, drawing inspiration from Nora Faber Overvoorde’s piece, In Life and In Death. Throughout the course, students also collaborated on a large-scale nature collage.

Next, they delved into the world of mask-making, using materials such as papier-mâché, plaster, paint, and tissue paper. Their designs were inspired by Community, an installation of plaster masks by artist Craig Paul Nowak.

For the final project, students created "rock bugs," inspired by Shane Morris's Prism Series. Using metallic paints and glitter to achieve an iridescent sheen, students designed their own bug collections. They had the creative freedom to choose the number of bugs and personalize their designs. Some of the rocks used were from ACT's supply bins, while others were donated by teaching artist Jill Rice, who collected them on a recent walk.

A special thank you to Priority Health for sponsoring this class and providing volunteer support. We are thrilled to see how our students embraced both creativity and community this fall!
