Featuring Lin & Dave Shatto

Lin and Dave Shatto smiling at the camera while standing outside.

In 2007, Dave and Lin Shatto moved from Indianapolis to Grand Rapids to be closer to family. They spent much of their 44-year marriage following Dave’s job to new cities, so when they landed in Grand Rapids, they were looking to settle in and find opportunities to develop relationships and volunteer. Their daughter, Emily Shatto-Evans, now one of our board members, had begun volunteering at ACT in 2008. When Emily heard the ACTion Choir needed an accompanist, she knew Lin would be the perfect fit. From there, Lin and Dave felt inspired to donate to ACT as well – now, it’s hard to picture life at ACT without them!

ACTion Choir students are standing together and singing on the Kuyper College stage, with Lin Shatto conducting their singing with her hands. They are all wearing blue ACTion Choir t-shirts.

Tell us about a favorite moment.

“…One day during a choir rehearsal, I was struggling with playing a new song and stopped right in the middle of the students singing. I was frustrated, but one of the choir members yelled out “It’s okay, Lin. You tried your best!” It sounds cliché, but what the students give to others is so much greater than what we give to them.”

Why do you donate to support ACT's programs?

“We value what ACT values... Everyone is valuable and has the potential to contribute something unique and beautiful to our community. We believe the arts give the opportunity for great personal expression.”

Thank you, Lin and Dave, for your constant support to ACT programs and the organization as a whole!
